Nearly 15,000 Eversource customers in Fairfield County remain without power following back-to-back storms that decimated the region, including 993 of the 3,3738 customers in Redding.
The downed trees and power lines led to school closures for the Redding School District.
On Friday afternoon, the Redding Police Department announced that Simpaug Turnpike had been reopened following clean-up efforts. Diamond Hill Road remains closed at Fox Run Road, as is Pine Mountain Road.
Police said that “power restoration work continues, and we hope to have a significant number of homes back on the grid by the evening.”
“This was a real one-two punch and we realize the impact this storm is having on customers, especially those who lost power in the March 2 storm,” Eversource Vice President of Electric Operations Mike Hayhurst stated. “The heavy wet snow weighing down trees already weakened from last week’s storm did significant damage to the electric system around the state and it will take days to complete the major work required to restore power. Our crews will continue working around the clock until every customer is restored.”
